What’s Jesus on the Road About?

Business card for www.jesusontheroad.com

Maybe you are reading this because I gave you a business card. I’ve given out lots of them recently. Thank you for taking it, and thank you for reading this blog. Now you may want to know, “What’s Jesus on the Road about?

Maybe I asked, “Are you a Christian?” before offering you my business card. Many of you said you were. Some were not, and some were not quite sure.

In my very first blog Jesusontheroad.com_Is it Worth It? I wrote:

“My aim is to spread the good news of Jesus to as wide an audience as possible. It’s NOT about me. At my age, I find myself asking questions about the value of my life, and my purpose for being here. In my search for answers, I find that others are asking exactly the same questions.

So, that’s the reason for this blog – to share my wanderings and wonderings, as you too navigate through this messy life, searching for your own answers to the big questions.”

The Big Questions of Life

It seems that the “Big Questions of Life” are:

  1. Origin – Who am I? Where did I come from?
  2. Meaning and Purpose – Why are we here?
  3. Morality – What’s right and what’s wrong?
  4. Destiny – Where are we going?

This website, Jesus on the Road, is not about forcing you to do anything. It’s just that as we travel around in our caravan, we meet lots of other people travelling around our lucky country, and admiring the scenery. People comment that it’s so amazingly beautiful. And it is. The big question is “How did all this come to be, and why?”

Where did everything come from?

Some would say that it was just a chance cosmic accident. Eons of years ago, there was nothing at all, and now we have an intricate system of interwoven, interrelated co-dependent ecosystems. Some would say that a tiny fireball suddenly exploded, and over billions of years, this explosion caused the whole universe.

“The Big Bang was the moment 13.8 billion years ago when the universe began as a tiny, dense, fireball that exploded… But what caused this explosion in the first place is still a mystery. The matter that spread out from the Big Bang developed into everything in the universe, including you. You are made of star stuff!” The Big Bang

This is an astounding theory! I find it unbelievable to think that a tiny fireball could explode and become our amazing, intricate universe, where everything works together. I look at the human body, and am amazed by how we grow, learn, communicate, and form relationships. We have wonderful creative skills, and a yearning to learn more about our world. We are fascinated by new things, and love to explore new places. We love to ask questions about it all. Four-year-old children are always asking, “Why.”  This can be difficult for parents, but it shows a genuine interest in the meaning of things. We also have a conscience which tells us about right and wrong. I can’t believe that you and I are random accidents of a cosmic explosion billions of years ago.

Maybe I’m not clever enough to imagine how the Big Bang started billions of years of evolution. For me, it seems obvious that an Someone made the universe in all its detail. That Someone must have been amazingly intelligent, and amazingly powerful – God. God describes how creation displays His eternal power and divine nature:

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

Romans 1:20 (NIV)

So, back to the question, “What’s Jesus on the Road about?”

In this blog, I will be talking about things that happen, and trying to relate my experiences to the Big Questions. I’m a Christian, and I’ve found that God’s answers are the only ones that make sense.

I’m really interested in you too, and I’m keen to hear your thoughts, whether or not you agree with me.
