As I said in a previous post, https://jesusontheroad.com/christian-blog/the-log-in-my-eye/ I recently had Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) and am still recovering from it. Those of you who have also had BPPV, will understand the nauseating, scary, out-of-control, sensation of being thrown around. If you haven’t had it, I sincerely pray that you never do.
It got me thinking about how unborn babies cope with being upside down for so long. Don’t they get dizzy?
I did some internet research on the topic. Apparently, an unborn baby’s vestibular system is not yet fully developed; because of their smaller size, there is less pressure on their head; the amniotic fluid helps balance out the pressure; and sensors in the heart help regulate pressure. https://www.thenakedscientists.com/articles/questions/upside-down-babies-womb
Someone compared the upside-down baby to scuba diving, saying that when they were under water, they had no sensations of dizziness. The only way they could tell which was up or down, was to look for the direction of the water bubbles.
How amazing is our God!
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Psalm 139: 13-14 (NIV)
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
There are so many things that scientists are learning about our bodies, and our world. How marvellous that God shared his creative nature with us. We still have so much to learn. There is still so much we don’t understand. Perhaps we won’t understand until we get to heaven and can ask God in person. In the meantime, let’s thank Him for our bodies, our lives, and our world.
It is a messed up, sinful world, for sure, but we thank God that He sent Jesus to pay for our sins, so that in the next life we can live forever with Him, without sin, pain or any more death.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 (NIV)
PRAYER: Dear God, we pray for all unborn babies and their parents. Keep them safe. Thank you for our children. Thank you God for making me. Thank you for my earthly parents. Thank you for my life. Forgive me when I live as though I made myself, and that I don’t need you as my heavenly Father. Forgive me for thinking that my purpose in life is to be the best, to make myself as comfortable as possible, and to work my way up the ladder, knocking down anyone who gets in my way. There is so much I don’t understand about You. Thank you for the Bible where you speak to me and teach me how to live. Amen.
