Yesterday, on New Year’s Eve, 2025 the year that … actually still is, I wrote about all the things I still had to do in 2025. I’m struggling with all the stuff that needs to be done. I’m wondering if I’m making good use of my time, and if what I’m doing is part of the real purpose of my life. I said that all my deadlines, my stuff, and all my issues, would still be here tomorrow. I can’t just let them go and leave them behind, like the old calendar that I’ve thrown in the bin.
I can’t just leave them behind
But then, early this morning, while researching for this blog, I found this: Letting Go Before the New Year – What to Leave Behind this Year
Wow! This amazing video tells me that I CAN leave things behind; I can let go of things.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
Hebrews 12:1
Throw off everything that hinders
Even the Bible says I can, and should, leave behind things that hinder God’s good purpose for my life. It says I should “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.” That sounds wonderful! It sounds like a great New Year’s resolution.
The video lists five things that should be left behind:
- Unforgiveness. Forgiveness doesn’t excuse what they did, but it does free you from what they did.
- Past failures. God’s mercies are new every morning.
- Other people’s opinions. We need to stop pleasing people instead of God.
- Comparison. Comparing ourselves with others leads to pride or insecurity. Both are toxic.
- Fear.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT)
Prayer
This prayer is from the video:
Father, help me to let go. Help me to release what’s weighing me down. I don’t want to carry this into the new year. Give me the grace to forgive, the courage to move forward, and the faith to trust You with my future. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
What about you?
Do you have baggage from the past that is dragging you down?
Can you leave some things behind in 2026?
Do you want to let go, or do you think that’s just too hard?
