O Come All Ye Faithful. Let’s adore what?

As Christmas draws closer, it is easy to get caught in the rush and the commercialism. I wrote about this in The Silly Season.

It’s easy to get caught up admiring and envying other people’s lives on social media. It’s easy to want to make our own lives and possessions the best. Or at least make them look better than everyone else’s. We want people to admire and adore us. It feels good when someone says to us, “O, that’s adorable!”

The beautiful carol, O Come All Ye Faithful calls us to adore Jesus, whose birth we remember at Christmas.

I find it refreshing to turn my focus away from myself and from my own desire to be liked and adored by others. It’s healthy and spiritually uplifting to adore the true and worthy subject of our adoration – Jesus, King of kings and Lord of lords.

I pray that you will be refreshed as you listen to this carol. You can sing along too.

O Come All Ye Faithful

1. O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem!
Come, and behold Him, born the King of angels!

Refrain:
O come, let us adore Him;
O come, let us adore Him;
O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord!

2. God of God, Light of Light,
lo, He abhors not the virgin’s womb;
very God, begotten not created. [Refrain]

3. Sing, choirs of angels; sing in exultation;
sing, all ye citizens of heav’n above!
Glory to God, all glory in the highest! [Refrain]

4. Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning;
Jesus, to Thee be all glory giv’n!
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing! [Refrain]
